From handling CIS and Self Assessment to tackling tax refunds for tens of thousands of building trade clients each year, RIFT was built to lighten the load of UK construction workers. Our partnership with the Lighthouse Club charity gives us the chance to do even more. The Lighthouse Club offers vital financial, practical and emotional support for people in construction, and we’re proud to stand with them and champion their work.

Here’s a run-down of the charity’s key news and events for this month.

Breaking down barriers with free demolition training
Teaming up with the National Demolition Training Group, the Lighthouse Club is thrilled to be offering free demolition courses to currently unemployed construction workers. For the moment, the courses will be run at the NDTG National Training Centre in Hemel Hempstead. If the scheme takes off, though, more venues might become available. The Lighthouse Club is even offering to cover reasonable travel expenses. Making it through the course scores you the appropriate CCDO card, unlocking the chance to land a job in the field. If you’re interested, and have experience in construction, contact Julie Hyde on 01473 913123 or welfare@lighthouseclub.org.

Construction Industry Helpline allows Lighthouse Club to reach more people than ever
With 2018 standing out as a tough year for the building trade, well over 1,600 construction families called out for help through the Construction Industry Helpline. About 40% of those who reached out needed urgent financial support, and the kinds of help offered ranged from mental health advice to debt management and tax support. There was also a massive surge in requests for helpline packs. All told, the helpline put £1.254 million of charitable services to work in the construction industry in 2018 – an incredible 75% increase over the previous year.

If you’re struggling, whether physically, financially or emotionally, call the Construction Industry Helpline on 0345 605 1956 or visit www.constructionindustryhelpline.com.

Mark your calendars for the South West Quiz Night
